How do I connect Mastodon?

  1. On your Mastodon server open Preferences, then Development, then New application.
  2. Name it ADpilot. Tick read:accounts, write:statuses and write:media, untick the rest.
  3. Submit, open the application and copy "Your access token".
  4. In ADpilot open Connections, choose Mastodon, enter your server (for example mastodon.social) and the token, then Check and connect.

The token only needs the three scopes above, so it can post but cannot read your messages. ADpilot checks it against your server before saving it, and stores it encrypted.

Does it work on my own Mastodon server?

Yes, on any Mastodon server reached over HTTPS. You enter the server address when you connect.

Which permissions does the token need?

read:accounts, write:statuses and write:media. Untick everything else when you create the application.

Does ADpilot write differently for Mastodon?

Each platform gets its own post from the same idea, sized to its limit. You can edit any draft before you approve it, and ADpilot learns from those edits.
